Very little fishing went on this past week, but between the weather systems, redfish, snook and baby tarpon have been chewing flies in the Flamingo area. Bonefish have been mudding pretty well on the flats around Islamorada during the higher tide phases. A surprising number of dolphin are close in for the offshore flyrodders.
The Redbone Slam Tournament is next weekend September 6 & 7 preceded on Friday by the Florida Keys Outfitters SLAM. That’s a one day, one fly pattern event targeting bonefish, tarpon and permit.
The Florida Keys Outfitters Fly Fishing School upcoming session on the weekend of November 14 will mark the end of our 20th full year of operation! I really think we have got the hang of it now and have a great lineup of instructors scheduled. Chico Fernandez, Steve Huff, Tim Klein & Diana Rudolph will be here. Everyone will work with casting. Chico will explain fly lines and flies in depth. I will show how to make a simple effective leader. Tim, Diana & Steve Huff will demonstrate working with a guide making presentations, communicating effectively and fighting fish.
We have added a couple new features on our website:
First, you can book guided trips in the Islamorada area with us on line. Pretty simple, just pick your dates, fill out the personal info & submit the form! We will confirm your guide information and get back to you within 48 hours.
Second, we now have a lot of our store items available on line. Many of the products we have are posted and we are adding items weekly. If you don’t see items you need, please feel free to ask about them.
Tight Loops,
Sandy Moret
